What Message is Your Profile Picture Giving off?

29 Apr

It is crucial that your profile picture looks professional because most first impressions are occurring via the Internet.

By having a great photograph, people are more likely to visit your profile. We are generally more attracted to photos than text so your profile picture will make the viewer choose whether or not to read about you on your profile.

Here are some of Lisa B. Marshall’s tips for choosing a great profile picture:

  1. Choose a high-quality head shot. (A photo of your head and shoulders)

2) Don’t choose an image that has a messy background. The focus should be on your face. Black and white pictures

work well because your face tends to turn out brighter than the background.

3) Dress professionally. We k now you enjoyed your weekend at the beach but please don’t use pictures of you in

your swimsuit. You should also avoid including other people or objects in you pictures.

I thought this was a great post. It is so true that many people will judge you based off your profile picture. That is why it is so important to have a good, professional/appropriate profile picture, because unfortunately your picture will be people’s first impressions of you. I also agree that people are drawn to good photographs, so if you have a great profile picture, a lot more people will visit your actual profile. I think the rules you mentioned were great if you have a profile for your job, or for other professional purposes. I think there is definitely more slack in the rules if you have a profile just for your own enjoyment. Either way though, I do think having appropriate pictures is really important.

I really enjoyed reading this post! At first, I thought it was just comical, but as I went into it and discovered what it was about, I thought it was very enlightening. Most people don’t think about how their profile picture is being perceived. This was a great way to make people understand how important it is to have a specific picture in mind. And I would expect it to get a lot of attention from the photos you have included!
