FPRA October Monthly Meeting

For the FPRA:Dick Pope/Polk County Chapter October Meeting, we had the pleasure of having Alyson Lundell, Public Relations Manager at Universal Orlando Resort, as our guest speaker. Lundell is also one of the former presidents of the Dick Pope/Polk County Chapter. She has worked at Universal Orlando Resort for just over two years and was involved in the openings of attractions such as the Hollywood Rip-Ride-Rock-It and the extremely popular Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

She shared several strategies that the public relations team used in order to appropriately market the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. They depended heavily on social media for most of the marketing. They got a hold of Harry Potter fan blogs and released images and other exclusive informations via social media and the masses were dying to get their eyes on the information.

One cool thing that they did was that they published a map of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter in a newspaper that would come alive once you held it in front of your webcam. It was extremely interactive and kept the fans wanting to know more and made them even more eager for the grand opening of WWOHP.

I am working as the current president of a student chapter of FPRA:Southeastern University Chapter and our group was present for this meeting. They enjoyed the networking opportunities as well as learning from the guest speaker. It is wonderful to be amongst so many people who have experience in the industry that you are interested in. FPRA is a great resource for anyone in any kind of PR.

    Thanks for posting about this! It’s always awesome to see someone so successful in PR. I think that would be such an awesome job to work for Universal! How cool is that?! I can see where social media would be a factor for getting the word out and promoting the attractions. I’ve gotten to the point where I almost forget what we did before we used social media for promotions. Interactive things are always a great way to get people’s attention and attract them to whatever you were promoting in the first place. That’s awesome that the group was able to hear this, I bet it was inspiring and great to hear from someone in the industry with first hand experience.

    What a great opportunity! I hate that I work on Tuesdays because these PR meetings on campus even are such a great chance to learn and network, not to mention PR meetings with FPRA as a whole.
