Mark Lowry at the Polk Theatre on January 19, 2011

1 Feb

Mark Lowry, comedian and the man who wrote the beloved song “Mary Did You Know?,” was in Lakeland on January 19, 2011 in order to put on a benefit concert for Southeastern University’s Department of Communication. The event took place at the historic Polk Theatre in Downtown Lakeland, FL.

I had the priviledge of assisting Lorrie Delk Walker, of Lorrie Walker Communications, and Christina Wellman, of GenXMedia Group, with promoting the event as well as assisting with the VIP event that took place after the event.

Some of the things that I was able to help out with were:

  • Managing a Facebook Event: inviting friends, sharing the link on my wall, etc.
  • Send Promotional Tweets: Using the hashtags #MarkAlanLowry, #Polk and #Lkld.
  • Greeting VIP guest and issuing writstbands at the event.

It was extremely nice for Christina and Lorrie to reach out to me and the Southeastern University Chapter of Florida Public Relations Association and give us the opportunity to volunteer and experience some aspects of putting on an event.

The evening was awesome and I had the opportunity to meet some locals as well as local professionals. It was a great way for the community to learn about Southeastern University Communication students and the awesome things that we are doing.

What a great opportunity! This event created a lot of positive buzz around campus and I can only assume that is because of the efforts of students like you. I had a Film class at the time of the concert and we were excited to leave in order to go to the concert. I love the opportunities available to us as students at this University. As communications students we have many events that we can get involved with. Mark Lowry is an exciting performer and I’m sure that experience will help you in the future that you create for yourself. Wonderful!
